Listen to This Episode

It was a pleasure to have Mitch Wilson back for a follow up interview.

mitchwilsonI interviewed him almost a year ago, where he talked about how he built his blog, Sports Chat Place, into a massive blog.

In today's interview, we talk about what has happened since then, how his blog has become more than just a blog, and what it takes to be successful.

Here are some of the things we cover:

  • How important it was for him to take a Blogging Course
  • How he gets his traffic
  • The role of Content in his business
  • The opportunities that appears when your blog reaches a certain level (and what that level is)
  • What it takes to be successful online

Mitch uses HUGE numbers in this interview – numbers that are so huge that they can almost be intimidating. However, it's something that I think is VERY important to hear.

Why?

Because it lets us know, and understand, what is possible, and how powerful blogging can be. By listening to interviews like this, it increases my motivation to do BIG things.

So go ahead and have a listen. And of course, leave a comment (or question) below, letting me know what you think.

Also, if you have a question you would like for me to answer on the show, make sure to call the hotline at (888) 835 – 2414.

  • There’s no doubt that Mitch has accomplished some amazing things with his site! It’s great to see how you and Leslie have grown together in your blogging journeys.

When you talk about the value of not trying to compete with the BIG guys directly, are there any strategies that you’ve used to identify opportunities to differentiate yourself from the behemoths? I know that in my own blogging quest I’ve run into this issue quite a few times, and when the big guys are SO big, for me it’s a bit daunting to try recognize such opportunities.

Thanks for sharing your story! Very inspirational.

    Best Regards,

    Matt

    • @Lean Muscle Matt That’s a great question Matt. I’m sure that Mitch will have something to say about this, but here’s my two cents:

      1. One way is to focus on a “microniche” – a niche within a niche, and being very specific about that niche and your target audience. By doing so, you are already differentiating yourself from the behemoths, and getting rid of the competition.

      2. Let your PERSONALITY shine through. This is something that seems to come up over and over again. You’re the only you, and by being you, you will be different.

      3. Bring something unique to the table. Yes, that can take a lot of thought, but if you can find a unique angle, you can definitely stand out from the crowd.

Those are a few tips. Hope they help.

    Awesome interview Leslie.

Very encouraging to hear about the people who went from nothing to market domination.

Have to nominate Mitch’s site for the #IBCT,

What have you learned that was most difficult?

    Hey guys,

Thanks for that, was really interesting. I launched The Sporting Blog 6 weeks ago and am focusing on creating interesting content. Still slowly building those numbers up but feedback is good. The takeway for me from this podcast is just to stick at it, keep the content coming and that will go a long way. I totally agree about staying away from scores and standings, there are a million huge companies that do that well. I want to generate interesting stuff that people want to come back to. Keyword stuff is really hard as we are trying to cover all sports. I hope with enough bookmarks and some word of mouth the traffic will steadily increase. Thanks for the advice guys was a great listen for someone like me.
