Inside This Episode

131_how to take full advantage of podcasts_72

Over the last few years, I've completely fell in love with podcasts. Why? For a number of reasons:

  • I can listen to them almost anywhere
  • They keep me entertained
  • I can stay up to date on things that are happening in my areas of passion
  • I can learn actionable content to apply to different areas of my life

But there's something I've noticed – normal people aren't as into podcasts as I am. In fact, most of the people I speak to don't really understand how they work.

Those people are missing out, and I intend to fix that.

Here's the definition of Podcast from Wikipedia:

A podcast is a type of digital media consisting of an episodic series of audio, video, PDF, or ePub files subscribed to and downloaded through web syndication or streamed online to a computer or mobile device.

For me, I tend to focus on audio podcasts because of the ability to consume that content on the go with my busy schedule.

Some of the points I go into detail are the following:

  • How to find podcasts that are relevant to you
  • How to manage your podcast subscriptions
  • Taking advantage of show notes
  • Providing feedback to the podcast host
  • The importance of leaving reviews
  • How podcasts can give you access to influential people
  • A simple way to Take Action on what you learn from podcasts

So go ahead and listen to this episode and you just might fall in love with podcasts as much as I have.

What's currently in my playlist

Over the years, I've listened to MANY podcasts. However, I've recently cut down due to the fact that my schedule is pretty CRAZY. So, what's left in my Pocket Casts app? Here you go:

This Week In Tech

Leo Laporte

I listen to this to keep up to date about what's happening when it comes to technology. Things are moving so quickly that it's extremely difficult to keep up. Leo brings on experts and they discuss what's happening in this rapidly moving industry. Makes me feel like I know what's going on in the tech world. It's a beautiful thing

Podcast Answer Man
Host:
Cliff Ravenscraft

Cliff is a great friend and is the go-to guy for all things podcasting. However, his podcast is not just about podcasting. I consider it to be more about him sharing his entrepreneurial journey and providing encouragement for those of us who are also on that journey. Cliff is a part of my mastermind group.

The Smart Passive Income Podcast

Another great friend who has accomplished a whole lot online. He's the kind of guy that you just gotta like – very transparent and very real. It's no wonder he has been able to grow such a massive following. He is also a part of my mastermind group. Great guy!

This is Your Life
Host: Michael Hyatt

This is a podcast all about intentional leadership. According to Michael, his goal is to “help you live with more passion, work with greater focus, and lead with extraordinary influence” and that's exactly what he does. He gives lots of practical steps. I'm currently working on a PhD in leadership so this podcast is of particular interest for me on this new journey.

The God Journey
Host: Wayne Jacobsen

It's no secret that I'm a Christian. That's something I'm pretty open about. I listen to this podcast because it literally challenges everything I believe about Christianity. Wayne doesn't go to a physical location called a church, but I consider him to be someone who is serious about his relationship with Christ and doing some amazing things.

Other Podcasts I recommend

I used to listen to many other podcasts. However, that takes a lot of time. Since I started back teaching, I told myself that I could choose ONE podcast in each category. Everything else had to go. There were a bunch that were on this list that I no longer listen to, but they are worth mentioning, so here goes:
