Five Steps To Getting More Done In Your Online Business

By Leslie Samuel | Productivity

May 28

Let's think about all the things I currently have on my plate – I run a Biology Blog, a Podcast and Blog on building an Authority Blog, I'm the lead trainer here at Become A Blogger, and a full time university professor. Needless to say, my life's a bit hectic (and crazy at times).

One of the questions I hear OFTEN is this – Leslie, how in the world do you get so much done online? I assure you – I haven't made a deal with the devil. What I have done is follow Five Simple Steps. What are those steps you ask? Well, you're just gonna have to watch this video to find out . . .

    Leslie,
Thanks for all you do for us. May the Lord richly bless you.
This was a great post, it helped me a great deal.

  • mtsmartins says:

Grea video, i think the Pomodoro Technique is very useful too..

    •  @mtsmartins I’ve never actually tried that technique, but the concept seems to make sense. Do very focused work for 25 minutes, take a short break, repeat the cycle 4 times and after the fourth, take a 15-20 minute break. I like small chunks. Might give it a try sometime.

    • mtsmartins says:

@Leslie Samuel Yes, thats it, its very simple indeed, and at least for me, it is very useful when i want to be 100% productive 🙂
When you try it, let me know how that work for u 🙂

    •  @mtsmartins I will definitely give it a try and who knows – if it goes well, I can make a video about it. I’d even credit you for telling me about it 😉

    • mtsmartins says:

@Leslie Samuel Oh, i will love to see your review on it 🙂

    • mtsmartins says:

@Leslie Samuel haha, yes, pretty awkward, hope it doesn’t happen again!

    • VanessaJeny says:

@Leslie Samuel  I’ve heard of that one too, but I find I get so involved in what Im doing that time just flies by. I’ve even tried a kitchen timer but I just keep going after its gone off cause I want to get what Im doing finished!. D’oh! I’m either dedicated or undiciplined… or BOTH!

  • victorious says:

Hi Leslie! I hope you are great!

Thank you for making this one of YOUR tasks at the top of YOUR list! I have been working more on ORGANIZIING— than anything else—-so this really helps!

I am putting up my first website in 2 days with a designer. “Behind the scenes” is a lot more work than I could have imagined. Just organizing PASSWORDS, has taken more time than is imaginable!

It is still A LOT OF FUN! Thank you so much for these tips! When the cash comes in— I WILL HOP ON STEP 5 !!!! I am looking forward to that!

I can hardy believe that I found you and your partners. You, Leslie, are an amazing teacher with a warm heart. You are all such incredible gifts!

Thank you for you kindness and hard work! God Bless, Mary

    •  @victorious You are very much welcome. Yes, trying to organize everything can be a challenge. I do have a recommendation for managing your passwords though. You should checkout http://www.lastpass.com. That’s what I use and I LOVE IT!

    • victorious says:

      @Leslie Samuel

    • victorious says:

WOW!!!!!!! I could not have known! Thank you! I just downloaded it!
      Have fun! Mary

    •  @victorious You are VERY much welcome. I love it because I can have it on any computer and have instant access to all of my passwords in an encrypted way so that it makes it harder for anyone to break into my accounts.

    • Marcia OMalley says:

@Leslie Samuel I’ve been using another freeware program to manage my passwords called Keepass this year and just love it too.You can download it here: http://keepass.info

    •  @Marcia OMalley Cool. The reason I love lastpass is because it works on EVERYTHING. PC, Mac, iPhone, Android, and just about every browser. And it’s free too for the regular version.

  • Excellent list Leslie, thank you.

Responding to emails eats up a lot of my time, and often breaks creative momentum.
So starting tomorrow I will be batch processing 🙂
    Thanks.
    Rory

    •  @Rory (EnjoyLife.co.za) Awesome. I actually need to take more of my own advice on that one because email does take more time than it should. I do batch process, but I do it a little too often. It’s always a work in process I tell ya!

  • JoyceF says:

Thanks for the reminder to be more organized. I try to do 12 things in one hour. I have to remember I have One Head:)
I need to outsource my Facebook business page to someone. I shelved it aside because it was giving me too much stress. Please suggest who I can outsource to.
    Thanks.

  • JoyceF says:

I have another question. How does one link within their Post?

  • HansH says:

    Hi Leslie,

As always very good advice. Yes we (or me) always seem to spend long times on things we can shorten if we take the right actions or apply the right thinking.

    Speak to you later, Hans

  • richescorner says:

Great video on time and priority management. It’s great advice for narrowing down your list to the highest priority items to ensure that you get the most important things done first.

  • hwaitah says:

Thanks Leslie for the doable, easy tips. These are common sense, but not common practice.  😉

  • VanessaJeny says:

Leslie this is perfect timing! I actually grabbed a notepad and pen and took down your steps immediately. I’ve stuck it on my wall next to the computer. You are spot on. There is so much that is pulling our attention these days that focus is harder than ever. Without focus we don’t get ver far. Now the only thing I have to focus on is the pink piece of paper next to the computer with your 5 steps and my list of three high value tasks for me. Thanks for making this so simple to implement. Great advice!

    •  @VanessaJeny That’s awesome Vanessa. So glad to hear that you got so much value from the video. Yes, the steps are very straight forward, but they make a HUUUUGGEEE difference when implemented. Stay tuned for more like this 🙂

  • vocalmaestro says:

Leslie, I love your video of  the 5 steps. I’m sharing it at my blogs at http://www.internetmarketing101bootcamp.com  I’d like to pass your wisdom along. I can appreciate how making high value with your time is important. I’m interested in creating a web-based music consulting business.

    •  @vocalmaestro That’s a great idea. I know that there are probably a number of people who have done that successfully. Just find a way to stand out and you never know how successful it can be. Keep me updated!

  • JoyceF says:

Thanks for referring me to video 8 about linking to the post.
I have also figured out what was wrong with my Facebook Business page. For some reason I had checked the “Do not link to Facebook” icon on my “WordPress Dashboard.”
    ( probably due to multitasking)
Yea !!! I am finally starting to see the Light :))

  • Goat Dodders says:

Hi Leslie, I love your manner it really puts me at ease, as I’ve only been at it for 2 months-[blogging], I’m a real beginner! Thank you for your 5 easy steps video too – what a difference it’s made to my day 🙂

  • Lucy Bieri says:

    Hi Leslie
Often I feel I  just go around in circle, too many task to accomplish.. Off course it a good advice to outsource some other task, I tried doing that through Odesk and Elance  but quite dissapointed to what they did with my blog.. Can you recommend a place or person that I can trust my blog on ? At moment my blog is corrupted, need some setting or twicking, the numbers of comment and comment box is missing.

Thanks for sharing these 5 simple tips to accompllsh ttask. Just shared it on facebook.

    Cheers

    Lucy

    •  @Lucy Bieri You are very much welcome. Thanks for sharing it on facebook.

In terms of Odesk and Elance, my suggestions are:

      1. Make sure you are VERY SPECIFIC in your job posting.
      2. Make sure to be VERY DETAILED in your instructions.

Recorded an episode where I talk about this topic here – https://www.becomeablogger.com/3901/049-how-to-outsource-your-online-business-the-right-way/

      It’ll give you some tips.

  • THANK YOU FOR THIIIIISSSS.
    Totally following your example.

    Thanks again
