If I choose a wordpress theme to get started and later have a custom theme programmed, will I be able to transfer the content that i have archived using the wrodpress theme to my new theme?

It depends on the kind of theme. It is possible that there will be a similar looking WordPress theme around.
I think your best bet would be to search for a theme that looks similar to your old one at http://themes.wordpress.net/

Yes, it’s fairly straight forward to change the theme of your blog. If you set things up the way we teach in the videos, you shouldn’t have any problems in the future.
If you do want to make significant changes to your blog in the future, just make sure you backup your whole blog first. More videos are coming shortly that will teach you how to do this.
