Now that you’ve figured out what rss means (from watching video #9), you can move onto a slightly more challenging tutorial. Inside the last video in this series, you’ll learn about “feedburner”, and how you can use it to help you boost your rss capabilities. If this is all gobbledegook for you, make sure you watch video #9 first.

PS: Oh, and we’re very likely to make some more videos just like the ones you seen here. If there are any topics that you’d like us to cover, please post your comments on this blog.

These videos are great and an absolute must for those beginning a blog. I look forward to more advanced instruction.
Thank you!
Mark
Great tutorials! I watched videos #1, 7, 8, and 9. You really made things easy to understand. I do have a question though if you have a minute. I noticed when you were adding the text widgets for RSS that you had a sidebar 2 and I have been trying to figure out how to get that sidebar 2 to show up for me. I only see the sidebar 1 in my widget section. I had a theme created for me and as you will see my blog is totally new and empty. I would like to be able to add the RSS/Feedburner code but don’t have the sidebar 2 option to put the text widget in. Make sense? Thanks for any help you can provide.
Thanks again for these great videos. I will recommend them to others for sure.
Hello Gideon
Thank you for your great tutorial videos! I am now at last in the loop of all this techie detail. While I have two great techie guys who do this all for me, I find I am a little lost when they come to explain things - it’s almost like a different language sometimes! Ok, so now I check out your videos and am better able to fine tune my drilling down which promotes better understanding all round.
Thank you and keep up the good work.
PS Love the accent!
Liz
Great video. Very clear and easy to understand. I’ve been using FeedBurner for some time and although as you say it’s intuitive I find it is always helpful to have someone show you around. Great series.
Gideon,
Thank you so much for this great series of videos on blogging. They’re highly instructive and easy to follow - great for a novice like me.
Thank you! Patti
Angie
Some WordPress themes only have one sidebar - looking at yours that is the case.
You can use the code in any sidebar - so just add the text widget to the sidebar you have - paste the code & your done.
If your theme isn’t set up for widgets you may need to paste the code DIRECTLY into the sidebar via the Presentation menu. It’s not that difficult. Just find the piece of code that refers to Topics and paste the Feedburner code after that - it’ll then appear just above ARCHIVES.
Copy and paste ALL of the sidebar code into a text or notepad document first so you can just repaste it if anything goes wrong.
Good luck
hi gideon. just watched all 10 of your videos and must say you did a great job. they were both easy to follow and clearly explained. i’ve never seen anyone go to this extent to show viewers a subject or describe a theme so patiently. you are to be praised for your efforts. thank you jerome whittier
p.s. keep up the good work.
Hi Mark
Glad you like the videos. Once you’ve watched them, please don’t hesitate to provide us with some more feedback

Hi Angie
Thanks for your comments and being willing to promote these videos to your friends.
In answer to your question about the extra sidebar that I had…
I only had to because of the particular theme that I used. If you follow the same steps, but just do it for the one sidebar that you have, it should still do the trick.
Try that and see how you go. If you’re still stuck. Just let me know via this blog.

Hi Liz
Thanks for your kind comments about the videos, and my accent

I grew up in South Africa and have been living in New Zealand and Australia for the last 14 years now. But my accent still remains
Glad the videos can help you get into the technical lingo a bit. You’re right, sometimes it seems like Greek!

Hi Patti
Thank you so much! I’m really glad that the videos are helping you. That was our purpose in putting them together.
I reckon you should call yourself an “expert blogger in training” - it’s always good for the old psychology

Hey, great response - sorry, just read it now…
I could not have explained it any better!
Gideon Shalwick
Hi Jerome
You’ve just made my day!
Thank you sooooo much for your very kind comments. It was certainly a great effort to put it all together, and with Yaro’s instruction and guidance, it’s turned out to be a pretty cool resource.
Very glad you like it!
Gideon Shalwick
PS: Of course I’m sure you’ll tell all your friends about it now right?
Hi Gideon
I kinda thought you were from that area, thanks for letting me know.
I was mega lucky enough to interview Yaro for our blog www/fesstivalpreviews.com/blog and have mentioned Become a Blogger in the intro. Not sure if Yaro has mentioned this but he gives the thumbs up to your http://www.internetmarketingnews.tv website. Really different and very funny.
Liz
Hi Liz
Thanks for letting me know, and good on ya for securing the interview with Yaro. He’s a good man and he sure does have a wealth of knowledge and wisdom that he freely shares.
Thanks for your kind comments about http://www.internetmarketingnews.tv - we have a lot of fun putting together and the response has been very good so far.

In regards to Video 10. Some wordpress themes already have an RSS button installed. If one were to follow your excellent video and install the rss button from feedburner. Then you would have two rss buttons. That would look a little tacky don’t you think?
I do know a little about css. About enough to be really dangerous. Should I take off the rss that was already installed and do what the video says. Or should I try and incorporate the feedburner code into the rss page in theme editor?
Might be a little advanced for beginning blogging but had to ask. Thank you for these great videos. A beginner should have no problem getting started with these videos to follow.
Hi Gideon.
Nothing could have explained to me better than these videos!
I should have found this earlier than anything else, then I could have avoided setting up my current blog with Blogger, and instead I did that with WordPress with hosted + my domain name. I registered at several services with current URL, so it’s not easy to change everything once I get started, so I keep it in mind every word you say in these videos for my next blog.
These videos are very easy to be understood by a beginner like me, and I appreciate Gideon’s step-by-step guidance. Thank you so much, you did a great job!
Hi Kirin
Thank you so much for your very kind comments. I am so glad that you have found the videos helpful. That’s exactly why we created them, because we want lovely people like you to use them and create their own amazing blogs.
All the best for your future blogging efforts!

Hi Steven
I think a possible way out is to find where your theme stores the rss address for the other rss buttons, and then to replace that address with the new rss address you got from Feedburner.
It’s a bit tricky to respond to this one, as it depends heavily on the theme that you are using for your blog. There is quite a bit of variation here as to how different themes deal with rss links.
But try this first to see if it solves your problem…

Hi Gideon and Yaro!
That was fun! I went through the videos step by step from brainstorming for a domain name, to registering it at Namecheap and through the web hosting process at Host Gator. Now, I have my own blog at http://www.myvirtualwebsite.com and I’m really excited to start filling it up with content. I have chosen Talian 10 as my theme and I already have the RSS button nicely tucked in and the Feedburner is up and running.
Thank you so much, you guys, and more power!
Gene
Hi Gene
That’s awesome news! I checked out your new blog and it looks GREAT!
CONGRATULATIONS AND WELL DONE!

I am just in the process of setting up my own blog. There are a lot of things I was not sure about. Creating the right type of content was one. But now I have a much better idea about creating an effective blog page with the right links. I found these ten videos very helpful.
Thanks
Hi Lucia
Glad you now have a better idea about creating an effective blog with the right links etc. It will sure come in handy in your blogging efforts later on!
Thanks for your lovely comment
Gideon
this is one of the best tutorial’s. cxelent job you guys have done inhere! I am looking forward to do my own blogging! Thanxxxxxxxxx ……….Shan N.Y.C.
Hi Gideon & Yaro,
You are stars- thanks so much! How generous of you to take us by the hand and show us every element of setting up a blog from start to flourish.
I have really enjoyed the ten videos. I will implement the early ones straight away, and re-watch the RSS and Feedburner again when I get to that point. Your style is very helpful, calm, and clear in explanation.
Is there another set to follow on, by any chance? For instance, I have never understood how to add affiliate links, even though I have previously paid for an explanatory course, yet gained no more understanding. (Yes, I am a silver surfer!)
All the very best to you lovely kind gentlermen,
Margot xx
Hi Margi
I feel really flattered! Thanks so much for your kind comments!
I’m really glad that you enjoyed watching the videos and that you found them useful.
In answer to your question whether there is another set of videos to follow…
Yes!
We are currently working on a whole bunch of videos that we’ll be releasing later on this year.
Unfortunately I can’t say much more than that…
Except maybe…Watch this space!
Talk soon Margi, and do let me know how you get on. Send me a link of your blog once you’re done, ok?
Best regards
Gideon Shalwick
Hi Shan
Thanks! You are very welcome indeed!
Let me know how you get on and perhaps post the link to your blog over here so that I can check it out ok?
Kind regards
Gideon Shalwick
Okay Gentlemen,
you have it hands down. This currently would be the most professional, worthwhile and pleasant site for the novice - that would be me. I have reviewed for days and hours and have clicked on all the make money sites. Did not buy anything; just was looking for someone who made the best presentation and offered the best level of comfort. Post my comment if you wish but drop my address, thank you.
ps Lots of folks hear stories about clicking on a link from their open Email program. I for one always copy and paste because I am not a tech’y. RSS feeds and “save password boxes” - just plain hooking up scares the crap out of many internet users. Perhaps some insight into condoms for the new blog might be appropriate. Personally I subscribe to, udate constantly and live with the folks at Norton.
Best Regards,
JD
Hi JD
Thanks for the kind words. I’m really glad that you found the videos useful
Not sure I fully understand your statement about the condoms though… I assume you use it to refer to protection for blogs in general?
In any case, all the best for your blogging efforts!
Gideon Shalwick
This video was very informative, and my personal favorite. I had no idea that feedburner could do so much, and all for free. I like how it gathers all the statistics and then provides the cool bubble wrap so you can see your stats visually.
This video actually answered other questions that I had when you went into the widget area, I didn’t even know that was there.
Wordpress is a very impressive blogging platform, I still have so much to learn about everything it can do.
Thank you for the awesome informative videos that you have made availible.
Hi Information Ninja
Thanks for the positive feedback. Much appreciated!
Yeah feedburner is great. It really does give one some amazing capabilities for free!
Of course, feel free to tell all your friends about becomeablogger.com if you think they will find it useful
All the best for your blogging!

How refreshing that you guys have taken the time and trouble to make videos on such a subject. I find written instruction somewhat complicated to follow being a visual learner. With very little knowledge of any coding I think I have everything in place. It has taken me a good few days to get the hang of word press, not used it before and have only been blogging for a couple of months.
I would be interested to know how you get the discalimer links, policies and terms of service links opening up onto a page of its own with out having to post these. Apart from that, top notch, thank you and I look forward to reading more of your work.
Your feedback on what I have done would be appreciated, if you can spare the time. http://www.kleenezefuture.com/weblog
A couple more years of work, then I will be able to chill on the worlds beaches.
Hi Julian
Thanks for your very friendly and welcome comments!
About your question I’m not sure I fully understand. Perhaps you could refer me to an example of what you would like to happen?
Regards
Gideon
This is the first video training online, I decided to watch. Your blog is awesome, the videos are very detailed, specific, the presenter was AWESOME! I almost made the mistake of purchasing a program, to learn what your videos taught me. I could not bring myself to make the purchase. I googled the person name just to take a look at his blogs, I wanted to see if he knew what he was talking about. I never found any of his blogs/sites. I choose to subscribe to your blog, because I can tell that you are passionate about your business, helping and, teaching others. Patience is a virtue. I am glad that I found you. Looking forward to purchasing your products, to further my online education in blogging! You have inspired me to set up my current blog the right way, I knew something was missing. Take a look now, and come back to the blog w/in the 30 days to see what you’ve taught me! http://www.BetterRTA.biz. I am so motivated it may only take me this week to follow the videos, so come back in a week:) Sorry, for the log comment…You’ve just made a long term friend, business partner, referrer….THANKS!
Hi Betterrta
That’s awesome news! Just let me know once you’ve implemented your new blog. I’d love to see your end result!
Gideon Shalwick
these videos should be available in printed form. There is far too much important information to be able to remember and access while actually setting up accounts, etc. The repetitive typing sections, where you type in your url or user name, should also be much faster to avoid boredom. They are very valuable but would be more valuable in printed form. Thanks for all your help!
Hi Dovid
Thanks for your comments.
You are right…the videos should really be available in printed format as well.
I actually do have them available in printed format. The only problem is that they are at home, and I’m currently on an overseas trip.
Once I get back, I will get the scripts onto this blog so that the videos will be easier to follow.
Thank you so much for the constructive feedback. It’s much appreciated. If there’s anything else you think we can improve on, please let us know.
Kind regards
Gideon Shalwick
How can I know when you’ve put the printed form on the blog? There doesn’t seem to be any way to subscribe to this blog. Where’s the RSS feed?!
Hi David
Good point!
Initially we didn’t want to include an rss feed as we weren’t going to update this blog after the initial videos were loaded.
But now things have changed a bit, and once I’m back from my overseas trip, I’ll get the rss feed on this blog.
Thanks for your advice!
Gideon Shalwick
Hi,
I have studied all 10 videos, outstanding information, I now have my Blog setup.
I am the type of person who can follow videos better than print - so these videos made the set up easy and accurate.
Good work on your part and thanks!
Hi Merie
Thanks for the nice comments.
What’s the address for your blog? I’d love to check it out!
