OOPS, sorry for the double posting, I told you I was a beginner, and after reading what I posted I now realise it sounded very uncomplimentary! That was NOT what I intended.

After reading all the other postings, I can’t wait to see these video’s, as there can’t be anyone more tech un-savvy p than me.

Hi Ian

We’ve just had a crazy amount of traffic to the site in the last 24 hrs. So it’s possible that the load was simply too much for the servers to handle.

Please try again and see if the videos play back better for you.

The performance of the videos are also affected by the quality of your broadband connection of course :)
Talk soon, and thanks for the feedback in any case!

Gideon:

I am close to becoming a Premium memeber but I have one concern…

I have been writing about politics for some time (app. a year) and recently started my own blog about a month ago (www.gopmike.com) and have posted over 40 of my most recent articles and have set up my adsense and gadgets using Blogger.com… I also purchased my own domain through blogger(Google)..

I am concerned about moving everything over to Wordpress as I would not want to miss a beat and lose any of my initial audience (app. 150/day - I know to you its peanuts…)

Does your program apply/teach Blogger.com blogs or just wordpress. Or, do you offer a seamless video/teaching on transitioning from Blogger to Wordpress…

Please let me know asap as I would like to join by the 11th…

Ths so much… Enjoying all your material so far…

i have watched the series of these video clips, some days ago, but right now i was unable to watch these clips again to do one or two things on my blog site. please kindly assist me to access or watch these video clips thanks.

Gideon Shalwick Reply:

Hi Olayinka

I think it could have something to do with the video sharing service we are using.

But I’ve found a way to fix it…

Do the following:

1. Clean our your internet cache (see instructions here: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/ie6/using/howto/customizing/clearcache.mspx)
2. Then hit refresh on the page where you were watching the video
3. Then try to watch the video again

This should fix the problem in most cases.

It may also be a good idea to press play to start the video, and then press the pause button a few seconds later. Then wait until the whole video has downloaded before you hit the play button again.

Let me know if you have any more problems ok?

Dear Gentlemen,

My congratulations on the videos. The explanation and instructions of Gideon Shalwick are very clear and to the point. I loved it. Most of the programs say that they will guide you step by step, I miss a lot of those steps in only words.
Now I would like to ask Gideon Shalwick if he has a video on “how to create a banner on the website”?

Scott February 5, 2009 at 3:33 pm

Gideon
Great presentation style - thankyou. You discuss the benefit of wordpress as opposed to a hosted blog. Am I correct in thinking that the real loss if a hosted server was abandoned or went down is the loss of postings, comments and other content rather than the site itself and theme which can be setup again relatively easily. If so, I’m not undersstanding the benefit yet unless there is a way to backup content locally also.
Kind regards
Scott

Gideon Shalwick Reply:

Hi Scott

Losing your content is definitely a major factor that counts again not hosting your blog on your own server and domain name.

The other drawback of course is that you don’t actually own the blog and it’s domain name if you’re not hosting it yourself with your own domain name.

So, imagine you’re hosted blog becomes really popular, and then you want to sell the whole thing - what happens then? How do you transfer the domain name to the new owner etc. It’s just a bit messy.

Also if your hosted blog gets removed or canceled for whatever reason, you will lose all your traffic and backlinks to your site. So even if you would copy all the content onto a new site, it will require a new domain name, and you’ll have to start from scratch again to build up back links which is so important for traffic and SEO. As you can imagine, this could be very frustrating indeed.

The decision still lies fully with you though :)
Hope this helps!

Veejay February 6, 2009 at 5:59 am

Forgive me Gideon if I am repeating myself, I’m uncertain if I have deleted my own query. I spotted a typing error and pressed change and close, and now I can’t find it anywhere, so I suspect I have. Anyway this is what I wanted to ask:-

Is it OK to use Private Label Rights to sell books on your personal blog, and to use URL to offer affiliate links, or does this constitute business. I notice you did not click in a circle on this question in hostgator. Does business perhaps mean ‘corporate blogging’, or is it for sites which have a proper buying and selling trade?

I am finding your videos exceptionally easy to follow but I am taking my time, as is my want. I am confident that your clear and concise instructions will get me where I want to be eventually.

Gideon Shalwick Reply:

Hi Veejay

Thank you for your message.

If you own the blog, you can pretty much sell anything on there you like (I’m assuming now that you’re only thinking about selling legal stuff right?)

So, using Private Label Rights and Affiliate promotions is fine.

I’m not sure which circle you’re referring to, and also in which video this was. Could you please provide some more details? Or maybe I’ve already answered your question.

All the best!

Gideon Shalwick

Veejay Reply:

Yes you have answered my question Gideon, but for your information the point in question is on Video 2 - How to register your domain name, on the Namecheap Login page right at the bottom after you have entered your personal details there is a line which reads ‘I register for o/personal o/business etc.

Another question - I have been trying to set up a minisite with several linked pages. Whilst the links worked to start with I started messing about with the pages, altering content and headings etc and I seem to mess up the whole thing. The links are not working and I have about a dozen files on my desktop., duplicating each other and not linking. If I delete all of them and start again will they be properly deleted from my computer or will they be there to haunt me lurking somewhere on the hard disc or somethng? Veejay

Gideon Shalwick Reply:

Oh ok - I think those fields for personal or business are purely for statistical purposes for namecheap.com. But if you’re unsure, you can always contact them directly.

About your other question… it’s a little hard for me to help you since I do not know exactly what you’re trying to achieve.

What kind of files are causing the problem? I’m really not quite sure how to help - you may need to find someone local to you who can have a look at your computer and who can answer that question for you.

Kind regards

Ian McKay February 15, 2009 at 7:03 am

Hi Gideon & Yaro
just viewed the first video, (Why You Should Use WordPress) I viewed it twice; and, to give you some analytical feedback, on the first viewing, the soundtrack stuttered and was very “jerky”, in Yaro’s intro: and, the sound quality, particularly when there was background music, was really poor! The Volume, on Gideon’s piece, was too low.

So, I clicked for a replay and found that, on the second viewing, that the soundtrack had improved quite a bit, (maybe buffered?)but I still had to “strain” to hear what was going on! Hope this feedback helps you pinpoint and fix the problem.

Ian

Gideon Shalwick Reply:

Hi Ian

Ok…

The poor performance of the video could be due to a number of reasons.

One such reasong could be your internet connection (you need a good broadband connection), and another could be due to your computer (older computers may have problems with displaying the videos properly).

So the only other thing I can suggest is that you view the video on someone else’s computer with a really good broadband connection.

Failing that, I could perhaps send you the download files for the videos. You can then download to your computer, and watch them at your leisure.

Just let me know how you get on ok?

Gideon and Yaro, Might it not be a good idea to upday your videos now with the latest versions of products? Some are becoming considerably dated.

Gideon Shalwick Reply:

Hi Vera

Yeah good idea. Although, updating to the latest version is not always a good idea. The latest version ALWAYS have a number of bugs that need to get sorted out before it’s safe to use in my view.

The version that we are teaching is a pretty stable version and does a fantastic job.

And we do show people how to upgrade to the latest version as part of the Become A Blogger Premium course.

So, my recommendation is to use the version that we teach here, go through the course, and then, if you still want, upgrade to the latest version.

That’s your safest bet.

Gideon Shalwick Reply:

Hey Packet

As far as I know, you can add text descriptions to your images that you post on your blog, and Google will actually pick up on that text, so that when people do an image search on Google, your images should show up.

Videos are a little different - If you’re using something like YouTube, Google is more likely to rank well for that. And I’ve noticed that YouTube is also working on speech recognition technology so that the words inside videos can become searchable. This is a very cool development to keep an eye on…

Jody August 4, 2009 at 6:57 pm

Can we hope for an update of these to WP’s most recent version, or at least to the recent major one, Gideon? These were great before that time, but it doesn’t seem sensible to recommend them to beginners, as I wish to do, when they would have to then immediately upgrade. That upgrade would be harder than the original installation as the automatic upgrade didn’t come into being until (sorry, I can’t remember the v. number of that major), and they probably wouldn’t be aware of the plug-in to do it.

I know it’s a lot of work to redo them, but they deserve it. They’re that good!

Sent with crossed fingers and thanks for considering the request.

Hi Gideon & Yaro,
I have a question.
I understand that if a blog is started under an externally-hosted site the content is not one’s own.
If I want to start 2 blogs with completely different topics (let’s say one is professional, and the other is a hobby/personal interest), can these two blogs be hosted under the same domain name? Won’t they be connected then?

Any suggestions on how to have 2 blogs without them being related to one another publicly?

Thank you, Yehudit, Israel.

Gideon Shalwick Reply:

Hey Yehudit

Yes, you can have two blogs with two different domains on the same server.

Basically, all you have to do, is create another sub domain under your existing hostgator account, and then install your next blog into that new directory.

You may need some technical assistance with this, so I recommend you get in touch with Joel from http://www.BlogTechGuy.com - he’ll be able to help you out.

I discovered Yaro’s site through one of Affilorama’s training lessons. Up until that time, I toyed with the idea of using a blog as an income earning opportunity but after watching Yaro’s initial introductory video to join his mentoring membership program, I felt as if I finally found a plan of action that could enable me in a systematic fashion to achieve my independence. This video is so simple and yet very, very helpful in starting me in the right direction.

Hi Yaro & Gideon

I had signed up on your website in June (I think it was?) and was hoping at that time to be able to access your Free Video Tutorials. I wasn’t having any luck with being able to access them so thought I would leave it it another time thinking perhaps your servers were overloaded?

Anyway I have looked into blogging again and was advised to view/listen to your free tutorials before I got started.

I am still having problems accessing the videos - I have cleared my cache, refreshed the page and all I see is a blank white space?

What am I doing wrong?

Do I need a password to sign in?

I thought that I only needed my email address and name? If I did have to provide a password I have forgotten it and my regular password doesn’t work?

Any tips?
