076 How To Be Successful According To Will Smith

Leslie Samuel Blogging, Mindset, Podcasts 37 Comments

I MISS YOU. No seriously, I really do. I’ve been doing all these Interviews, and they’ve been great. But I miss the great times we had when it was just me talking to you.

So I decided to recorded this episode to help our relationship grow a little better :)

Actually, I NEEDED to record this one, because it’s been on my mind so much and I had to get it out there and share it with you. Today’s episode deals with the concept of Success.

First, I make two very BIG announcements:

1. The first is so big that you will have to listen to hear it.

2. I’m speaking at BLOGWORLD in New York (in 2 weeks). I know it’s short notice, but if you’re interested click here to register and use the coupon code PodLearn10 for 10% off. There’s also a Virtual Ticket Option if you just want the recordings of the sessions (SOO worth it).

Then, I answer two questions from Lynn about blogging about multiple topics and branding yourself.

Then I get into the main content . . .

I found this video with excerpts from interviews that Will Smith has done. I saw it floating around on Facebook somewhere and decided that I HAD TO share it with you and break it down in terms of what it means for authority bloggers.

I listen to the MP3 of this video every single day, at least once. Why? Because it helps me to keep things in perspective, and it helps me to push beyond any discouragement that might come up in my Blogging Business.

You can go ahead and watch the video below:

Here are some of the things I cover in this episode:

  • Finding your Motivation
  • Talent vs. Skill – which is more important
  • Be willing to work your Behind off
  • Your current situation doesn’t matter. Find out what does.
  • The best way to build your business (one brick at a time)
  • Forget being realistic. Everybody else will do that for you
Honestly, I feel that if you listen to this episode, internalize what it says, and take action, you WILL be successful.
(Sidenote: now one of my goals in life is to meet this dude in person and let him know how it has impacted me. Hopefully I won’t have to stalk him, lol)
So go ahead and give it a listen, then let me know what you think in the comments below.

Somehow when i went to type in your blogworld affiliate the audio for the podcast stopped even though i opened in another tab!! URG frustrations. Anyhoo I just wanna say CONGRATULATIONS AGAIN!!

      Hi Rochelle,

Try opening it in another window instead of another tab.

That’s worked for me when streaming on some websites is interrupted when doing something in another tab.

I also find it to be more of a problem using Firefox and Chrome than IE. IE will automatically open another window when you click to start a stream. Firefox and Chrome will open another tab.

Where has you been Brother???I have missed hearing you.
Glad you sent this out for us – as always AWESOME!!!

@Robski Man, last week was a crazy week in my life, so I completely missed that episode. I had to come back with something strong :)

Glad you got value from it bro.

  3. Gooch

Leslie Congrats, that’s awesome news. I could only imagine the self control it took to not spill the beans.

As usual Outstanding podcast, but this one resonated more deeply than any other. I cannot thank you enough for bringing Will’s video to my attention, it’s a true gem.  Wrapped up in those 4 mins is a formula for high achievement…. just the boost I needed today… I’m truly inspired!!

Thanks for the BlogWorld Link trying to resolve a conflict to see if I can make it.

    1. Leslie Samuel

@Gooch Thanks man. Glad you enjoyed this episode so much.

If you end up coming to Blogworld, definitely look me up. That would be awesome.

    Leslie,

I have watched this video (or I think there’s a similar one) SO many times over the years through starting up my business and it really does give you this relentless focus and eagerness not to give up on your dreams.

Well done for sharing. I am a MASSIVE fan of Will Smith and his career is such a great example of somebody perfecting their craft due to an amazing work ethic. Watching this video really does make you want to work through the night! ;)

    Thanks,
    Luke

    1. Leslie Samuel

I hear you Luke, since watching this video, I’ve looked at Will differently. I used to think that he was just a funny guy (which he is), but he definitely has a STRONG work ethic.

Glad you were inspired! Don’t work though the entire night though ;)

    Hi Leslie,

Great heartwarmer and a very useful reflection of how good life can be (or can become) if you keep at it.
    Thanks for this great reminder.

    With great spirits,
                                    Hans

so i came back to hear what Will Smith had to say.
Some VERY good points. Very aggressive and masculine, but I like his thought process and determination.
The part I appreciated most was the brick laying to build a wall. Thats how i live my life too.

    1. Leslie Samuel

@Rochelle Hanson Yes, he is aggressive indeed. And to a certain extent, that’s what it takes to be successful.

I must say that there are a few minor things I take issue with in his mentality (mostly on the twist that being a Christian should influence our mentality), but that’s another topic for another episode.

For now, lets keep working at what we’re doing. Success WILL come (get it, Will – Will Smith. Ok, that was cheesy, LOL).

Who could listen to this podcast and not leave a comment? Leslie I am so happy for you and your family. I hope that you have a healthy baby and just know that your words of inspiration today have inspired me and many other people with the desire to change the world also. I think this is your best podcast yet and just like a fine wine you get better with time. I have listened to all of your podcasts from day 1 and I have to say that this is the one that has inspired me the most to never live a mediocre life and to be outstanding in everything I set out to accomplish. Thank you Leslie!

    1. Leslie Samuel

Wow Tai. Who could read a comment like this and not reply. I’m SO glad (and humbled) to know that you have gotten so much from this episode and that it has inspired you to “never live a mediocre life”. If I NEVER get another comment on my blog and if my blog were to crash today forever, it would all have been worth it just for that (and I’m serious).

    1. Leslie Samuel

       @Andrea @EntwicklungsCamp.de Thanks Andrea.

This is awesome bro. Interestingly enough I posted a blog about a week ago on this same video. And yes I totally felt the same way. It really impacted my thought process. The conviction, the passion, the raw desire to be more than the status quo. Loved the podcast.

      Thank you Meichun,

We’re VERY excited for the new one that will be joining us soon.

I do have a transcript for the episodes, but we’ve had to take them down temporarily due to a technical error. I will have my assistant work on putting them back up as PDFs over the next week or two.

      All the best!
