072 How To Build An Authority Blog That Works Without You!

Leslie Samuel Blogging, Podcasts 4 Comments

Over the last few weeks, I’ve been preparing to do something BIG with my Biology blog.

Yes, traffic has been VERY strong and steady. Yes, it has been making a consistent passive income, but it’s time to take things to the next level.

Since I’ve been sooo busy, I haven’t had time to do ANY work on the site. The last video I posted was back in February. So what I decided to do was bring on a team of writers.

Well, this is the first week that I have writers publishing to my blog and I’m excited about it.

So I wanted to share with you what I’ve done to facilitate this process and make it run relatively smoothly. In this episode, I talk about how to set up your Authority Blog to work without you.

Why you would want to set your blog up in this way

[unordered_list style=”tick”]
  • Less work for you to do because your blog functions without you. Takes time to build, but the rewards are GREAT
  • Helps in building a community. When Others feel involved, they feel as a part of something significant and want to help it succeed.
  • You get other people involved in promoting the blog.
  • It give you more CONTENT and Content is KING
  • It makes your blog MUCH easier to Sell.

What to do BEFORE starting the process

  • Choose a name that facilitates growth
  • Have good rapport with your audience and make sure you are building an AUTHORITY blog
  • Build a Community around your Authority Blog

How to Manage The Process

  • Write out Clear Guidelines for your Writers
  • Set them up as “Contributors” in your wordpress admin area
  • Encourage Sharing once the content is posted
  • Encourage them to participate in discussion (comments)
  • If you can afford to do so, PAY your writers
  • Treat them as VALUABLE parts of your team
  • Refine the process

What I expect to see as a result

  • More Traffic
  • Increased engagement
  • More Value
  • More Income

    Hi Leslie,
    that’s funny.
With interactive-biology, you are about 2 years ahead of my site.
I make and publish  Electrical engeneering Tutorials on my site http://ET-Tutorials.de . Our businesses is therefor very similar.
I will definitly follow how you are doing with your guest posts.
    But I have one question:
As I understood you publish videos on your blog. But the guest posts are text based.
Don’t you think that will change the “character” of your site ?
    Kind regards from Germany,

      Hi Wolfgang,
That’s an excellent question and it’s something I’m testing at the moment. The initial response has been quite positive, from all indicators so far. When you think about it, it’s just more relevant content. Yes, it’s in a different format, but it’s adding SIGNIFICANTLY more value than I can add on my own.
I haven’t published a video in months. Now, there’s new content every single weekday. In my opinion, it will definitely change the “character” of the site – it will enhance it. Some people LOVE to read, others LOVE video, and in many ways, I target both.
Also, Google LOVES text, so that’s always a plus.
      Hope that answers your question.

    Hi Leslie,
1:  I have been blogging since March this year.  I have not made any money. Well, I take that back.
In March I made 1 dollar and 5 cents. In April I made 6 dollars and 67 cents. This month- May I have made Zero. I think I need to interact more with my readers. After learning how to podcast I will do some interviews. I also want my readers to contribute small inspirational stories. I don’t have money to give them for their contributions. What do you think can motivate them? My blogs aim is to inspire my readers.
2:   For some reason Facebook does not work for me. I cannot navigate the business pages. We have had this conversation before. I decided to forget about it and not lose sleep over it for now. I focus on Linked in which gives me good traffic.
Thanks for sharing this podcast and for being my Blogging Teacher.

       @JoyceF Hi Joyce,
Thanks for commenting. I’ll let you in on a little secret (well it’s not really a secret). I was blogging on my Biology Blog for 8 months before making 1 cent. So, in terms of financials, you made more than me in your first 2 months :)
The key is this – Deliver VALUE to your audience and go out there and let your audience know. That might be Facebook, it might be forums, it might be other blogs. I can’t really tell you what will work for your audience because I don’t know your audience or what they want.
So you answer the question – How can you deliver value to them and what do they need that you can sell? Once you’ve figured that out, you’re on the right track.
