068 My Life Story: How I got Into Internet Marketing And What I’ve Learnt Along The Way

This episode is gonna be kinda different . . .

LeslieSamuel1

One of the things we teach inside Become A Blogger is that bloggers should take some time and write out their life stories as it pertains to their blogs.

This is a very good thing to do because it helps your audience to be able to connect with you as a person – not just a website with great content, but a great person with a great website with great content.

So, I decided that I need to walk the walk, but do it in my own unique way – instead of writing my life story, I decided to record a podcast episode about my life story.

Yep, it’s all about who I am in this episode. Well, not really. It’s moreso about how I came to be doing what I’m doing today and what lessons I’ve learnt along the way.

I really have learnt a lot and continue to learn more every day, which is why I REALLY love what I do.

So, sit back, relax, grab a cup of Tea (or whatever you do when you’re relaxing) and get to know me a little better.

Inside This Episode, I talk about:

[unordered_list style=”tick”]
  • My childhood and how it set the stage for what I do today
  • My experience leaving St. Maarten and moving to the United States
  • How my relationship with God affected my life
  • The book that gave me the Entrepreneurial urge
  • My past FAILED “internet marketing” experiences
  • How I made $70 in my first day as a real Internet Marketer
  • How and Why I started my Biology Blog
  • How blogging has enhanced what I do

[unordered_list style=”tick”] There’s a lot in this episode, and I’m excited to share it with you. Hope you enjoy!

    Hi Leslie!

I enjoyed your story. Though my story is greatly different, I can relate to so much: rejecting structure without giving up; investing on products/services that I didn’t understand, working to burnout point. It took me a while to learn this, but the most important aspect I relate to is Building Your Life From Passion And Purpose. Too often, society wants us to fit into a speciific mold (like being a “good student”), and if we don’t meet their expectations, we are told we how we don’t “measure up.” I’ve come to learn that God didn’t create us to “fit in,” but to be individuals. When we HONOR OUR UNIQUENESS, that’s when WE FIND OUR GREATNESS!

    Thanks for sharing your story!

BTW, I’m ENJOYING Become A Blogger 2.0!!!! I’m a rather skeptical individual, and was following Yaro on and off for a while. Yaro provided such great FREE information that he earned my trust and respect. Over the last 2 1/2 months, I’ve have more time and energy to focus my efforts of learning more about blogging. I AM SOOO GRATEFUL to Yaro, Gideon, and you for opening BAB 2.0. I can’t imagine how long I would’ve spent reseaching before I learned ‘the hard way.” I love the “Mindset Audios!” They rock! And the videos are so thorough that I bet my 8 yr old could follow them!

I highly recommend BAB 2.0 to ANYONE considering a bolg. If you’re worried about the expense, Don’t Be. The time saved is worth every penny, and the information IS PRICELESS for someone who’s just finding their way. Of course, with Leslie’s enthusiastic personality, it makes the lessons enjoyable. The value these guys preach IS in their service.

Thanks for letting me take up so much SPACE… LOL!!

@Godgivenwings Thank you for your comment. I find it very interesting how even though we’ve all had totally different lives/experiences, there are so many similarities in what we’ve gone through. It’s like we’re all connected via our differences (if that makes any sense, lol).

Also, thank you for all those kind words. I’m so glad to hear how much you are enjoying Become A Blogger 2.0. We’ve put A LOT into it and I’ll be working on A LOT more to make it even better over time. Just you wait ;)

Hiya Leslie! Another inspirational podcast! Thank you!
I can see that one of your strengths is you never give up!

I was one of those people who met you through Yaro’s interview of you. I then joined your mailing list and downloaded the free sreadsheets you gave away to track and organise freebie trading back then. I never did try freebie trading though as I was more interested in blogging.

Anyway, the point I wanted to share is – in your podcast you said people came back after you took a break because you had a list – you emailed them and they came back and the traffic went back up. As someone who came back I wanted to share why I came back.

Your list enabled you to contact me, but I came back because you  have always given good valuable information to your audience – i.e I came back because of who you are. Even though I was not into Freebie traing, as an audience member I saw what kind of person you are and so I listened to you when you sent emails out. And that is why i came back and started listening to your podcast here from the beginning.

So I would say the most important thing one can do online is build a list AND treat them well, like you do leslie – THEN they will come back!

A big thank you for all you do mate!

      Wow John,

Thanks for your comment. It was very encouraging. It’s very interesting that although you weren’t interested in Freebie Trading, you still found value in the content. Great stuff man. I’m glad that you have continually found value in what I do here.

Yes, the important thing is building a list AND treating that list VERY well. It’s all about trust. If you can establish that, then you’re on the right path.

      Thanks bro!

    Hello my friend,

What shocked me about your story is how very similar our paths are. Everything from the piano lessons, Rich Dad Poor Dad,  and YES even the part about taking college money and investing it in Mr Market. It’s like you were telling me about my life! :) The good news is that I did manage to keep some of my money, which has proved to be a valuable resource for investing in my online presence now.

I’m a 100% Leslie supporter. I’m a Learning With Leslie insider, a Yaro Blog Mastermind student, and an annoying question asker in Become a Blogger 2.0. As you know Leslie, I’ve been blogging for over a year and half. I’m SO excited right now because I feel like I’m hitting my next big growth spurt in my blog, and to be completely honest I don’t think I’d be where I am today without you Leslie and the people you recommend.

I feel blessed to have been given the opportunity to have received the education that I got in school, but in some ways I feel like 16 years of course syllabuses have made it very difficult for me to chart my own path. That’s the value you give me Leslie, as both a successful blogger AND a teacher, you’ve given me a blogging compass. To a certain extent everyone has to find their own way to get to their blogging goals, but it’s SO much easier to take consistent action when you know which direction you’re going.

    All the best Leslie!

    -Matt

@Lean Muscle Matt THAT’S why we get along so well – we have a bunch in common ;)

Glad to hear how much progress you are making. Even more glad to be able to see it. Keep up the great work Matt. Keep asking question and keep learning. Most of all, KEEP TAKING ACTION.

You’re on the right path, and that’s exciting to see. Also, thanks for your support!
