039 Reality Internet Marketing Series Continues – 2nd coaching call with Matt

Today’s episode made me so proud. Ok, just in case you are new here, I’m currently doing a series called “Reality Internet Marketing“.

It’s basically a “Reality Show” where we follow the blogging lives of a few bloggers at different stages in the blogging careers.

Once a month, I do a coaching call with each of them, see where they are in their business, and then give them some concrete advice for them to implement.

Why am I doing this? Simple – because there so much hype out there that it’s hard to see what’s real and what’s not when it comes to internet marketing.

By doing this – you get a very good idea of what’s happening with REAL PEOPLE in internet marketing. Not only that, you also get to hear tips that you can implement in your online business.

Well, about a month ago, I did my first coaching call in the Reality Internet Marketing Series with Matt, from BuildingLeanMuscleMass.net.

What We Accomplished

The first call was a very productive one. In it, we covered the following:

Those are only 5 points, but they sure do pack a punch. If you would like to listen to that first coaching call, click here. I thought it was pretty insightful.

In this coaching call

Ok, I’m gonna be honest here. When it came to the followup coaching calls, I had no idea what to expect. I’ve seen countless people go through training programs and accomplish nothing, so I was very interested in seeing how this Reality Internet Marketing series followup would go.

Well, in today’s followup, Matt wows me. He has taken so much action that it’s amazing to see. In fact, in some ways, he went beyond what we spoke about.

I’m not going to give it all away in the show notes (as usual), because I want you to experience it first hand.

This is definitely one that you need to listen to, just to see the progress that has been made and to see what happens as a result of taking action.

Coming down to the end of the episode, Matt asked me about whether or not he should change his domain name to better suit the direction he’s going. I give him my opinion based on my experience changing my domain name recently. I talk about the pros and the cons.

If you aren’t subscribed to this podcast, click here to subscribe, so that you can keep track of how the people in the Reality Series are doing. We have more Coaching Calls and Interviews coming up, so stay tuned.

      Thanks Rochelle! :)

I’ve felt that lump of fear in my throat on more than one occasion, but knowing that I have to report back to Leslie sure helps me fight through that.

Just taking baby steps like Bob. :) “Baby steps, baby steps…”

      Best wishes,

      Matt

    Very inspiring episode!

Matt, I am truly inspired by your website because I, myself, am trying to build a blog/website that involves helping others in health and fitness by discussing advice, tips, as well as promoting recommended fitness products. I guess my main problem is that I don’t have a clear focus like you have Matt (fitness for desk jockeys).

It’s really hard to narrow my focus because the health and fitness niche is so broad, I don’t know how to narrow in on a focus.

Leslie, this is my first comment on your blog, but I come to this site almost everyday for internet marketing advice. I just have to say I really enjoy your podcast (mostly because of the catchy musical intro, awesome!) haha

    • Leslie Samuel October 4, 2011 at 8:52 pm #

LOL, yep. The catchy musical intro gets a lot of people.

First off, thank you for leaving your very first comment. Glad to have you as a regular listener. When it comes to choosing a niche, it all boils down to choosing. Yes, you can always do keyword research, and that can help, but when it’s all said and done, there’s one person who needs to make the choice, and that’s you!

I do wish you all the best on your journey. If you ever have a question, you know what to do – call the hotline at (888) 835 – 2414 :D

I have to admit Leslie, I walk around most of the day humming your tune. :)

I took you (your podcast) to the gym with me for the first time yesterday. Strangely enough it’s as inspirational as “Eye of the Tiger”.

        Take care,

        Matt

LOL, that’s Hilarious! Glad to know that it’s sticking so well.

I might need to add words to the theme music. Hmm, that would be interesting . . .

      Hi Brandon,

Happy as punch to be an inspiration! :) Checkin that off the bucket list.

It’s pretty easy to feel like a little fish in a big ocean when it comes to the fitness market as a whole. Hey, that just reminded me of a line from “The 4 Hour Work Week”, when Tim says “It’s better to be a big fish in a small pond then a little fish in a large undefined pond.”

The method that worked for me as far as niching down is simply to keep writing. Eventually you’re likely to see a trend in your subject matter, as well as trends with your readership. Blogging is just as much about listening as it is about speaking.

      Best wishes on your website!

      -Matt

wow that just hit me. I just have to keep writing, you’re right! this whole time I would always wait for the perfect idea to come to my head.

Matt, thanks again. I just signed up for your newsletter and can’t wait to see your video series!

Awesome to hear Brandon and you’re very welcome!

An old English teacher of mine used to say “If you want to be a writer, write!” Behold the genius of simplicity. :)

I can’t wait either. Right now I’m starting to feel like I’m riding through life in a champagne bottle… just waiting for the cork to pop.

          Best wishes,

          Matt

    Hi Leslie, Hi Matt,

    great things going on :)
Best is, Matt, you sound so self-assured and relaxed. You know what to do next and are focusing on your goals – know what I am talking about here?
You might be working a lot but you know that it`s worth it and that you are on your way, right?
(I know what I am talking about: I just launched my first niche site!)

What came to my mind when listening is: Why start with the “it`s not about” (the negative aspects) on your About page. I checked it and have to admit it`s funny because you did it nicely. Yet internet is quick and most readers tend not to read long texts. Maybe you should write one headline above it saying what it IS about. Don`t know if this is right for you. Just my feelings about it. If you consider changing it do a split test…

I had to laugh when you came up with the name change. When checking your About page I just thought “Matt should think about changing the site`s name…” Funny. Again, I am not an expert but I would change it. The new name has no keyword in it but as Leslie said you can build up a brand. Sounds better to me than you recent domain name (shorter for instance!).

Good luck and no pressure (we are ALL following your steps there :) ), Andrea

    • Leslie Samuel October 5, 2011 at 12:18 pm #

      Uh ohhh, no pressure Matt.

Man, I’m feeling the pressure for him. Good stuff, LOL!

    • Matt October 5, 2011 at 2:06 pm #

      Hi Andrea,

Actually Leslie has an effect on his mixer called “self-assured and relaxed”, so all glory and honor goes to the power of technology. :)

It’s amazing how much more calm I felt for the second interview, and the funny thing is I knew that this one would be posted to the masses. I guess practice makes proficient (nobody’s perfect).

I’m definitely leaning toward changing the name, even if only because I really want a shirt that says “Fit Desk Jockey”. In all seriousness though, I smell a change coming….!

I hear you loud and clear on the About Page, and honestly the only reason I have it the way it is now is because that’s the way the content streamed out once I popped the creativity cork. Thanks for the recommendation! Definitely something that seems split test worthy.

No pressure??? Right! :) I need it…it keeps me moving.

Thanks to everybody who’s pulling for me, I’ll try not to be dead weight.

      Take care,

      Matt
