FREE Download: How To Set Up A Squeeze Page Using Optimize Press And Aweber (PDF)

For today’s episode, I decided to get a littler more detailed with what I do here. You see, one of the things I get asked A LOT is how I create my Squeeze Pages.

This is something I didn’t do for a long time. However, when coming into the launch of Become A Blogger Premium, I knew it would be essential for me to generate MULTIPLE squeeze pages (and sales pages, launch pages, and membership pages).

Here’s the thing – I’m no designer!

In fact, I’ve tried designing a few things for my blogs in the past and every time I show them to my trusted friends, they tell me the same thing – It looks like crap.

Side note: Can you imagine how that feels when you spend hours working on something and finally thinks it looks great, just to have everyone say it looks like crap? lol.

Anyways, it become very clear to me that design wasn’t my fortay. Then I found OptimizePress – A wordpress theme that allows you to make your squeeze pages (and sales, membership and launch pages) look awesome, without needing to have ANY design skills.

In fact, it’s SOOO SIMPLE that I decided to make a quick video that will show you How To Create A Squeeze Page In EXACTLY 3 Minutes. Check it out:

YouTube Preview Image

Wasn’t that EASY? Yeah, I know!

Ok, enough about the video, here’s what I cover in this episode:

  • What is a Squeeze Page
  • What kinds of things can you give away to get people to Sign Up for your list
  • Why You Should Create A Squeeze Page (or two, or three . . .)
  • What You Will Need To Create Your Squeeze Page
  • The 3 Elements Of An Effective Squeeze Page

In 30 Minutes, I go through all of that Jazz, and it’s some valuable Jazz. So make sure to check it out and then let me know what you think in the comments below.

About OptimizePress

As you probably already know, I love me some OptimizePress. Why? It’s very simple – it allows you to create the kind of pages you need as an info marketer without having to go through all the headache of hiring a designer.

And yes – I’m talking about Squeeze Pages, Sales Pages, Launch Pages, and Membership Pages. I’m currently using ALL of these types of pages here at Become A Blogger and without those pages, it would cost me an arm, a leg, and my firstborn (coming in November – YAYY) just to get the look I want to get.

The design of THIS BLOG that you’re reading right now cost me approximately $1,800, which isn’t a ridiculous amount of money considering what I got, BUT if I had to get individual designs done for EACH of the kinds of pages I need done . . . yeah . . . that would’ve been a pretty penny.

So Opted for OptimizePress (get it? That was one of my corny jokes, lol). If you want to check out all the different types of designs that come out of the box, check out the OptimizePress Template Library.

Action Steps

Alrighty, as usual I want you to interact with me below. So here’s the assignment for today (and you’re gonna love it)

Option #1: Leave a link to your squeeze page below and let me know what it’s about. Yes, I’m actually asking you to promote yourself in my comments area (and I don’t ask that a lot) ;)
Option #2: If you DON’T have a Squeeze Page, then let me know what idea you have for something you can give away using the squeeze page techniques I talk about in today’s episode.

Tools & Resources Mentioned

The following are a list of tools and resources that were mentioned. This is to make it easier for you to get access to the resources mentioned. Enjoy!

p.s. Yes, the links to OptimizePress and Aweber are Affiliate Links. As you probably already know, if I’m promoting something, it’s because I BELIEVE in the product/service and know that they will benefit you. Otherwise, I’d rather be sitting on the side of the street with no food to eat (not sure where that came from, but it’s true) :D

Great tip – so fast!  What is he name of the timer you use in the video?  Thanks!

    • Leslie Samuel October 9, 2012 at 5:47 pm #

@Nomadic Method Hi there. I found it here - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UIrLyE7iz50

I basically went to youtube and searched for 3 minute timer. You can search for just about any time interval and find it there.

You rock Leslie, thankyou so much for making so many tecchy stuff look non tecchy for people like me.

    • Leslie Samuel October 9, 2012 at 5:47 pm #

@Smartgame You are very much welcome. That’s what I’m here for – to simplify the complicated :)

  5. Carey Green October 9, 2012 at 4:45 pm #

I love learning all this kind of stuff Leslie! Thanks for putting in the time! I’d love your impressions (or anyone else’s) of my page that is still in development (probably not going “live” until January)… http://www.christianhomeandfamily.com/live-marriage-intensive/ (password is “jesus”) without the quotes, lower case.

    • Leslie Samuel October 9, 2012 at 5:50 pm #

@Carey Green That looks pretty good Carey. Great job so far on that sales page. It’s not a squeeze page, but it’s a similar concept. The biggest comment I would have would be that it would be better to be able to get rid of the header and navigation menu. That way people have a single focus. That’s why I use OptimizePress and just install a separate wordpress installation with that installed for all those kinds of pages.

That being said, I’m sure you’ll find that what you have is relatively effective. It’s ready to launch already :)

      • Carey Green October 9, 2012 at 6:23 pm #

@Leslie Samuel  Thanks for the feedback Leslie… I have a voluteer (and really good) web coder who can probably get rid of the header, etc. for me on that page only. I’ll see what I can do… great idea!

        • Leslie Samuel October 9, 2012 at 7:16 pm #

@Carey Green Gotta love those volunteer coders. Did a great job!

@davebruis Thanks for the tweet ;)

  7. PaulbDz October 9, 2012 at 10:42 pm #

Leslie, since OP is a theme, not a plug in, how do you use it without changing the theme for your domain? use a separate domain? a subdomain?  Thanks.

    • Leslie Samuel October 9, 2012 at 10:55 pm #

Great question Paul, I actually just create a separate wordpress installation. For example, if you go to http://www.becomeablogger.com/blogsecrets/ that’s a separate wordpress site. So you can do that, or you can use a subdomain/separate domain. I prefer just a separate installation in a different directory. We have 4 WordPress installations on Become A Blogger for different purposes.

      Hope that helps!

      • happyfoodholly October 10, 2012 at 12:51 pm #

@Leslie Samuel  I think you should do a tutorial on this separate installation/diff directory. i’m definitely not tech savvy, so this would be helpful for me, and possibly others.

        • Leslie Samuel October 10, 2012 at 1:48 pm #

@happyfoodholly Actually Holly, if you go back to the video in the members area on how to install wordpress, just follow the same exact instructions. Except in the part where it says “Install in directory”, you want to give it a name. For example, if you wanted to install it at “www.happyfoodhealthylife.com/members/”, you would just add “members” to that section. Everything else is the same.

        • happyfoodholly October 10, 2012 at 2:12 pm #

@Leslie Samuel thanks Leslie. That does help. I’m teetering back and forth on whether or not to make the OP plunge to improve my squeeze page. (plus all its other features)

        • Leslie Samuel October 10, 2012 at 7:24 pm #

@happyfoodholly It all depends on what you need done. If you’re going to be making squeeze pages, sales pages, membership and launch pages ultimately, it’s the way to go. There are other options out there, but I like this one the best.

If you just need a page to get people to opt in, OP isn’t absolutely necessary. It will increase your conversions, but it all depends on what you want to (and can afford to) spend.

Remember, it’s not all about having the latest tools. It’s about providing value!

  8. Hans Hansen October 10, 2012 at 2:08 am #

Hi Les, great presentation. I have only one question: Does optimize press works with every word press theme? I have one of those free themes. When using an op squeeze page are all the navigational menus on the top of the page left unchanged?

    • Leslie Samuel October 10, 2012 at 6:23 am #

      @Hans Hansen Hi Hans,

It’s actually a full wordpress theme in and of itself. That’s why I use a completely new wordpress installation for OP. All you do is install wordpress again in a new directory. For example – you can have http://www.yourdomain.com/premium/ or /members/ or anything that’s relevant to what you’re doing.

That way, you get to manage it separately. In terms of the navigational menus, you get to create the nav menus as you wish. There are all kinds of features for including or excluding different menus on different pages. They have a bunch of videos that show how to set up different configurations.

      Hope that helps Hans!

      • Hans Hansen October 11, 2012 at 2:21 am #

@Leslie Samuel Hi Leslie, thanks for your answer. I really want to thank you for the “Magnetic Headlines” link. It’s awesome, because this 11 post series contain a lot of valuable examples of how to write great headlines. I’ll probably have to change some of my own headlines now in my posts to attract more visitors.
        Keep in touch, Hans

        • Leslie Samuel October 11, 2012 at 6:20 am #

@Hans Hansen You are very much welcome Hans. Yep, it’s a great resource. Copyblogger has some GREAT content on copywriting. I just love it!

  9. Mike Craig October 10, 2012 at 1:17 pm #

Well Leslie, you really are trying to teach this old dog new tricks. The next two things video and e weber I will do. Probably e weber first. I’m starting video from scratch so bear with me. By the way, thank you my site http://www.mike1040.com is up and running thanks to you and even getting comments. To everyone out there Leslie Samuel is the MAN! No doubt about it!!! As always, mike1040. I’ll see you at the top!!!

    • Leslie Samuel October 10, 2012 at 7:26 pm #

@Mike Craig Haha, I wouldn’t say that I’m the MAN, but I’m sure glad that I’m able to help. Glad to see your site is up and running. Thanks for the shoutout from your blog. I really appreciate it.

One thing you should work on is adding links to your blog. Instead of just adding the link as text, you need to actually create it into a link so that people can click on it. That will increase the chances of people actually using your link.

If you don’t know how to do that, you should check out the 10 Free videos in the members area. In the one about creating posts and pages, I show exactly how to do that.

http://happyfoodhealthylife.com/free-report-how-to-increase-your-motivation-to-workout/ curious to hear your constructive criticism of my squeeze page before I tear it apart. I have a problem with squeeze pages looking too “salesy’. if you google squeeze page and look at the images, they all look salesy and scamy if you know what I mean. Even if they say 100% free on them, they just have a certain look to them that I don’t like. Thoughts on how to avoid that look?

    • Leslie Samuel October 10, 2012 at 7:28 pm #

@happyfoodholly It’s a good start. The biggest criticism I would have is that there are MANY distraction on the page, from the sidebar banners, to the navigation menu, the header, and all that stuff. However, that might just be a limitation of your theme. If that’s the case, and you can’t get Optimize Press, don’t worry about it.

Just follow the guidelines I give in this episode for creating a squeeze page (in terms of what goes on the squeeze page) and it will get much better. One step at a time.

      YOU ROCK!

      • happyfoodholly October 10, 2012 at 8:40 pm #

@Leslie Samuel Thanks Leslie – you’re right – One step at a time. And yes, there are limitations to my theme – as far as I know, I’m not able to take those side banners/nav/etc off just one page, without taking it off the others.and don’t you worry – the first $97 I make through the site will be spent wisely ;)

        • Leslie Samuel October 10, 2012 at 8:53 pm #

@happyfoodholly No worries here Holly. The first thing is to make that first $97. What you do from there is make the next $97, and then the next, and then . . . you get the point :)

  11. Rochelle Hanson October 10, 2012 at 5:42 pm #

Beautiful :) You’re quite speedy there!

Hey Leslie, up to now I have listen to every one of your podcast and I can not thank you enough for all the value that you have given us.

I am still new at internet marketing (only 5 month) and my opinion might not have much value but I will give it anyway.

Ever since the first blog that I read about internet marketing I heard that “the money is in the list” and I have seen that some marketers have taken this to heart. Many have converted the upper fold into an opt-in space, others have a pop-ups immediately upon arrival to their sites, others wait 15 sec. Many give bonuses, e-books and so many more things. Some times I wonder how is this better than buying subscribers at $0.07 a piece?. Obviously the level of commitment of someone who opted-in without having an opportunity to read your blog is not as high as the level of commitment who have been following you for 3 months.  At the end, those persons with little commitment, they become expensive. You can not expect them to love you; they have not had the opportunity to get to know you, and they cost money to maintain in your list.

Last month I stumbled upon http://lorelleteaches.com/. I was so blown away by her value that I was not leaving her site without getting some kind of assurance that I would be on her list. I had to search hard but I found her opt-in box. She is a WordPress teacher and she uses the theme: twenty eleven.

All this to say that there is no better technique to getting some one’s email than giving fantastic value. I have the feeling that there are numbers and statistics that can prove how naive I am, but  this are the thoughts that go through my mind as I continue learning this beautiful business called Internet Marketing.

I like this article/video, some useful information.

I’m new to Internet marketing and have put up a Squeeze page at http://www.smartbusinessjourney.com/free-ebook/, take a look and see what you think. I’ve used OP to create this and am about to start split testing the headline and body copy.
